Never Give Up Poem

If there was one thing I would say to you
If you are just getting started on training your dog
Is never give up
Never give up trying something else if what you do isn’t working
Never give up on your dog
Even if everyone tells you to
Never give up on your self
And the belief that you will be able to gain the necessary skills
Never give up on staying humble
And accepting there is so much more to know
Never give up embracing the mystery
That these dogs give us a chance to touch
And never give up the belief that you deserve a well behaved dog
That you deserve to have a dog as loyal to you as you are to them
That there may be someone or something you haven’t tried yet
Or if you have maybe you didn’t try long enough or hard enough
And never give up on the knowing
That no matter how hard you try, no matter how many ways, no matter for how long or even if you are the best in the world
You will find your limit
And you will find your dogs limit
And sometimes accepting those limits will be how you define success for now
Or even perhaps forever
Never give up that awareness that sometimes
You have to give up
You truly have no other choice
As there are forces and things we all must one day surrender to
Yet the only way we know what those forces are
the only way we know our limits
the only way we know we have done our best
The only way we know we truly served others
The only way we know when we one day give up that we didn’t give up
Because we didn’t have a choice at that point
The only way we will ever know when to give up
Is if
We never give up
